tarte Tape Shape Concealer vs. Clinique Line Smoothing Concealer

In the past 2 to 3 years I have changed up my makeup routine a lot. Concealer was something I thought was only used to cover up pimples or acne scars. When I figured out it was used for much more than that, I decided to purchase one for myself. I’ve always had a fair complexion, especially on my eyelids. Concealer is now my best friend when it comes to covering the veins on my lids. I also have oily eyelids so when purchasing my first concealer, I kept that all in mind.
Now like I said, I didn’t know much about concealer, so when I bought my first one, I just went off what a consultant at Ulta suggested for me. There wasn’t anyone around the store other than the Clinique consultant, so when I asked for her opinion, she of course pulled out a Clinique concealer. This didn’t really bother me because I had used other Clinique products before and I liked them.

I ended up buying the Clinique Line Smoothing concealer and I thought it worked decently. I had nothing to compare it to, so it was hard for me to give a good review on it. I noticed that it creased really bad on my oily eyelids, which I hated, but I figured I would just have that problem with all concealers. I was definitely wrong!

Within the past month I bought the tarte Tape Shape Concealer. I had heard really good things about it and since I was almost out of my Clinique concealer, I thought I would give it a try. Now, the tarte Tape Shape Concealer is more pricey than the Clinique Line Smoothing Concealer. The tarte concealer cost me $24 before tax vs. the Clinique concealer which cost me about $18 before tax, but you absolutely get what you pay for with the tarte Tape Shape Concealer. First off, the tube is huge! It’s nearly double the size of my Clinique Line Smoothing Concealer. So, although it costs more, it lasts a lot longer.
As for my review on the tarte Tape Shape Concealer itself, it is amazing. Like I mentioned before, I had a problem with my eyelids getting crease marks on them from the oils on my skin. I noticed a few minutes after I applied the concealer, I got a slight crease on my lids, but all I had to do is smooth that out one time and it didn’t happen again. Also, a little goes a long way. I put small dabs of the concealer on the spots I want to perfect and it blended out with so much coverage and so evenly.

I also purchased the tarte Quickie Blending Sponge. Before this, I was just using off brand sponges from the drug store, but I will never go back to that. I know a lot of people still prefer the Beauty Blender over the Quickie Blending Sponge, but I think it does wonders. If the Beauty Blender really does work better than the Quickie Blending Sponge, then I will be anxious to try that next, because the Quickie Blending Sponge is near perfection in my opinion. My only complaint I had was after the first time I used it. When applying the sponge to my face for the first time, I noticed some purple specs from the sponge on my face. That only happened that one time though.
Back to my review on the tarte Tape Shape Concealer… This concealer also lasts all day. I didn’t think this was possible, but I can go from morning to night without having to touch up my concealer when I’m using this product. It looks fresh all day long! The color options are also really great. tarte has 7 shades right now for the Tape Shape Concealer. As I said before, I have fair skin so I bought my color in the lightest shade, “Fair”. I do like this shade, however, I think it may be just slightly too light for my skin tone. When you buy a concealer, it’s supposed to be slightly lighter than your natural skin tone so it will highlight your skin. Since the coverage works so great, I think next time I may try the shade “Light”.
When I mentioned on my social media that I was going to give my review on the tarte Tape Shape Concealer, a follower commented on my post and asked why the concealer had the name it did. The tarte Tape Shape Concealer has the name it does because it was actually created to help create the perfect contour. Luckily, tarte made the concealer so well, that it can be used for contour, or just natural coverage and highlighting.
Overall, the tarte Tape Shape Concealer is a nearly flawless product. My only complaint about this concealer is the scent. I actually don’t mind the scent, but I know some people can be sensitive to smell. The concealer has a perfumey smell to it, but it doesn’t smell too over powering. The smell goes away within 10-15 minutes after application. So, if you are sensitive to smell, I still recommend you giving this product a try. Personally, I will definitely be purchasing the tarte Tape Shape Concealer again! Head over to my social media and tell me what you think about the concealer! Did you love it? Hate it? Let me know!
